JAKARTA, April 10 (Xinhua) -- Seven people were killed and two others seriously injured when a minivan collided head-on with a passenger bus in Gresik Regency of Indonesia's East Java province on Thursday, an official said.

The crash occurred as the two vehicles were traveling along the Panggangsampeyan Street in Gresik Regency, according to Ryno A, an official from the local disaster management and mitigation agency.

"Six victims died at the scene, and another died on the way to the hospital. All fatalities were occupants of the minivan," he told Xinhua, adding that the bus driver and his assistant sustained serious injuries.

"The minivan is suspected to have skidded, causing the driver to lose control before crashing into the bus," said Rizki Julianda, head of the traffic unit at Gresik Police.

All victims have been transported to a nearby hospital, he confirmed. Enditem
