KABUL, April 10 (Xinhua) -- Afghan authorities launched a campaign against locusts in northern Samagan province on Wednesday to protect farmlands and pastures, an official from the provincial Agriculture Department said Thursday.
Aimed at protecting 8,000 hectares of farmlands, the campaign would cover the provincial capital Aybak and all the districts to ensure farmers' interests in the province, said Gulabudin Ghiasi.
About 80 percent of Afghanistan's 35 million population is largely relying on agricultural products and animal husbandry.
