WARSAW, April 10 (Xinhua) -- Polish striker Robert Lewandowski expressed his satisfaction after FC Barcelona took a 4-0 home win over Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League quarterfinal first leg.
The team coached by Hansi Flick is just a small step from securing their spot in the best four after a great performance at home ground. Lewandowski led his team to triumph by scoring twice after the break.
"We worked hard for it and played very well. We were looking for our chances. In the first half we had a few, but Dortmund also tried to oppose us a few times. Of course in the second half, when we increased the pace and scored those three goals, it was hard to stop us," Lewandowski told Polish media on Thursday.
The 36-year-old stressed that Barcelona had prepared for the season in order to be in top form for the most important matches.
"I won't hide the fact that I was focused on this final phase, although we still have a dozen or so matches ahead of us. It would be difficult to keep such a high form throughout the season. March, April, especially May are the most important months and you have to be ready," the forward concluded.
On Wednesday evening, Lewandowski scored his 98th and 99th goal for Barcelona in his 140th appearance for the team.
"I am happy with this achievement. I know that I still have a long way to go. I'm happy that I play in the club, that I can score so many goals. I would like to cross that barrier of 100 goals as soon as possible and I hope that it will happen soon," Lewandowski concluded.
The second leg of the Champions League quarterfinal will be played on April 15 in Dortmund. Enditem
