BANGKOK, April 10 (Xinhua) -- Thailand's consumer confidence declined for a second straight month in March, reaching the lowest level in five months, as concerns over sluggish economic growth and a looming trade war mounted, a survey showed on Thursday.

According to the survey of 2,242 respondents conducted by the University of the Thai Chamber of Commerce, the consumer confidence index fell to 56.7 last month from 57.8 in February as all components of the index decreased.

Consumers were worried that Thailand would be impacted by the U.S. tariffs, which could cause issues for exports and tourism, leading to slower economic recovery, said the university's president Thanavath Phonvichai.

The index falling in the past two months does not necessarily indicate a continuing downward trend, as average quarterly consumer sentiment for the first quarter of 2025 remained higher than the previous three months, Thanavath told a news conference. Enditem
