ISLAMABAD, April 11 (Xinhua) -- Pakistani security forces carried out an intelligence-based operation in the country's northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, killing two militants including a high-value target, the military's media wing said on Friday.

The overnight operation was conducted in the Lower Dir district of the province, following reports of militant presence, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in a statement.

During the exchange of fire, the forces killed the two militants with one of them allegedly involved in multiple terrorist attacks targeting security personnel and civilians, the ISPR said.

The terrorists named Hafeezullah had a bounty of 10 million Pakistani rupees (35,700 U.S. dollars) placed on him by law enforcement agencies due to his involvement in high-profile terrorist activities, the statement added.

A sanitization operation is currently underway in the area to eliminate any remaining threats, the statement added. Enditem
