Malaysia's IPI rises 1.5 pct on year in February

KUALA LUMPUR, April 11 (Xinhua) -- Malaysia's industrial production index (IPI) rose 1.5 percent year on year, driven by an increase in the manufacturing sector, official data showed Friday.

The Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) said in a statement that the manufacturing sector expanded by 4.8 percent year on year during the month.

However, the output of the mining and electricity sectors declined by 8.9 percent and 2.8 percent, respectively.

Throughout the first two months of this year, the IPI increased by 1.8 percent year on year.

The manufacturing sector indices for the period went up by 4.2 percent.

Meanwhile, the mining and electricity sectors declined by 5.9 percent and 1.5 percent, respectively. Enditem
