QUITO, April 11 (Xinhua) -- At least four people died and five others were injured in a car crash in east Ecuador on Friday, local media reported, citing reports from the national emergency service.

According to the Integrated Security Service ECU 911, the accident occurred in the early hours of Friday between a passenger van and a trailer, which was parked on a road in the Santiago de Mendez municipality in the province of Morona Santiago.

The local ECU 911 was alerted of the accident and immediately mobilized emergency teams to assist those affected.

Preliminary reports showed that the van was traveling from the city of Cuenca to Macas, the capital of Morona Santiago, when it hit the trailer parked on the road.

The occupants of the van were mostly students, according to local media. Enditem
