KABUL, April 12 (Xinhua) -- The authorities of an Afghan provincial government have laid the foundation stone of a 50-bed hospital in eastern Afghanistan's Khost province.
The hospital, to be built at a cost of 1.5 million U.S. dollars, will be completed within six months, deputy to the Khost provincial government Mahboob Shah Qanet said.
The provincial administration would do its best to increase the access of locals to health services, Qanet was quoted by the local media outlet Tolonews as saying Friday night.
Local Afghan residents said hospital projects like this one will help Afghan patients who would otherwise travel to foreign countries for medical treatment.
By launching development projects such as roads, hospitals, water canals and reservoir dams, the Afghan interim government has been struggling to create jobs for locals and make every effort to alleviate poverty in the post-war country. Enditem
