ADDIS ABABA, April 12 (Xinhua) -- The Ethiopian government has called for further strengthening the long-standing economic and trade relations between Ethiopia and China.
The call was made by Ethiopia's State Minister of Trade and Regional Integration Yasmin Wohabrebbi during her meeting with officials from the Chinese Embassy in Ethiopia, the ministry said in a statement late Friday.
Noting that Ethiopia and China have developed positive relations across various cooperation areas over the years, the state minister emphasized the need to further bolster the two countries' trade and economic ties with a win-win and mutually beneficial outcome.
Wohabrebbi said Ethiopia's successful homegrown macroeconomic reforms have created a favorable environment for strengthening the country's economic and trade relations with China and other countries.
During the discussion, Chinese officials emphasized China's strong support to boost Ethiopia's exports to the Chinese market. They highlighted the importance of strengthening Sino-Ethiopian bilateral economic relations across various sectors, aiming to enhance the two countries' cooperation in a mutually beneficial manner, according to the ministry.
On Thursday, the Ethiopian Investment Commission disclosed that China has remained a leading source of foreign direct investment (FDI) in Ethiopia, accounting for almost 50 percent of all FDI inflow into the country during the last fiscal year. Enditem
