JERUSALEM, April 13 (Xinhua) -- The Israeli military issued evacuation orders on Sunday for parts of Khan Younis in southern Gaza after it said a rocket was launched from the enclave toward southern Israel.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said in a statement that its air force intercepted the rocket, which triggered air raid sirens in the Israeli village of Reim near the Gaza border. No casualties were reported.
Following the interception, residents in several neighborhoods of Khan Younis were instructed to evacuate and move west toward designated "humanitarian areas," the IDF said.
Israel resumed airstrikes and ground operations in Gaza on March 18, ending a two-month ceasefire. According to Gaza health authorities, at least 1,574 Palestinians have been killed and 4,115 wounded since the fighting resumed. Enditem
