ATHENS, April 13 (Xinhua) -- A Greek group claimed responsibility on Sunday for a bomb attack on the offices of Hellenic Train, Greece's railway operator on Friday, and a similar attack outside the Labor Ministry in central Athens in February 2024.

Both attacks caused only material damage and no injuries, as warning calls were made and police had evacuated the areas.

In a declaration sent to a local anarchist website, the group calling itself "Revolutionary Class Self-Defense" stated that the attacks were carried out in response to several work-related fatal accidents in recent years, including the 2023 Tempi train disaster.

On Feb. 28, 2023, a head-on collision between a passenger train and a freight train in Tempi, central Greece, claimed 57 lives. It was Greece's deadliest train crash.

Officials from the railway company, which was acquired by the Italian national railway company under a privatization program eight years ago, have been charged.

Moreover, survivors, families of the victims, and opposition parties accuse the government of institutional failures and of attempting to evade responsibility, a claim also cited by the group as a motive for Friday's attack, according to their statement. Enditem
