KABUL, April 14 (Xinhua) -- Police have destroyed poppy farms in eastern Afghanistan's Khost province, warning of dire consequences if anyone violates the law to cultivate the illegal crops or gets involved in the drug business, provincial police spokesman Tahir Ehrar said Monday.

Covering two acres of land, the illegal crops have been smashed in Alishir, Nadir Shah Kot and Tanai districts over the past couple of days, the official added.

No one would be allowed to cultivate illegal crops or produce and traffic the illicit drugs in the province, the official warned.

In a similar drive against illicit drugs, police discovered 28 kg of opium poppy and took into custody two individuals for involvement in the drug business in northern Badakhshan province over the weekend. Enditem
