TUNIS, April 14 (Xinhua) -- Tunisian security forces have dismantled a drug trafficking network active in the eastern Sousse province and arrested four individuals, the General Directorate of National Security said Monday.
"The four arrested include two female members and a man who was already wanted under 13 search warrants for charges including theft and assault," said the General Directorate of National Security on Facebook, without mentioning the operation's timing or the suspects' identities.
During the operation, authorities seized nine small plastic bags containing cocaine, a plate with drug residue, and a sum of money suspected to be proceeds from drug sales.
The public prosecution had authorized the suspects' detention pending investigation.
The Tunisian government has intensified its efforts against drug trafficking, resulting in the arrest of approximately 5,000 individuals involved in drug-related offenses in 2024, a significant increase from 3,165 arrests in 2023. Enditem
