SYDNEY, April 15 (Xinhua) -- A woman has been killed in a drive-by shooting in Sydney, the capital city of Australia's state of New South Wales (NSW), said the police on Tuesday morning.

The shooting outside a home in Ambarvale, about 45 km southwest of central Sydney, was reported to emergency services shortly after 11 p.m. local time on Monday night, said NSW Police Force on Tuesday.

Local police arrived at the property to find a 65-year-old woman had suffered a gunshot wound to her leg.

She was treated by police and ambulance paramedics but died at the scene.

According to a police statement, the woman was struck when an unknown vehicle fired several gunshots at the home before leaving the scene.

A 34-year-old male and 21-year-old female were also in the home at the time but were uninjured.

The police force has established a strike force with the homicide squad to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident. Enditem
