KABUL, April 15 (Xinhua) -- A total of 296 Afghan nationals imprisoned in Pakistani jails were set free and returned to Afghanistan on Monday, the country's Ministry of Refugees and Repatriation said Tuesday.

According to the ministry's statement, the detainees were imprisoned in Pakistan for 15 days to 6 months, and after being released, they returned to Afghanistan through the Torkham border crossing.

Earlier, 293 Afghans were freed from jails in Pakistan and repatriated to Afghanistan last week.

Reportedly, about 7 million Afghan refugees, most of whom are undocumented migrants, are currently living abroad, with most living in Afghanistan's neighboring Pakistan and Iran. Enditem
