KABUL, April 15 (Xinhua) -- Police have arrested a gang of abductors and set free a man from their clutches in Afghan capital Kabul, the Ministry of Interior reported late Monday.

Police have captured the members of the band on the outskirts of Kabul city, Abdul Mateen Qani, spokesman for the ministry, posted on his X account.

Recently, the arrested gang members kidnapped a man and demanded one million U.S. dollars in ransom for his release, said the official, adding that the rescued individual had returned to his family safely.

In addition to this event, the members of the gang have also been engaged in numerous kidnapping cases, he said.

Although the rate of crimes has been reduced over the past more than three years in Afghanistan, criminal elements still attempt to kidnap members of well-off families for ransom in parts of the post-war country. Enditem
