KIGALI, April 15 (Xinhua) -- At least nine people have been killed and seven others seriously injured in Rwanda following heavy rains since the beginning of April, authorities confirmed on Tuesday.

The victims were from Burera, Ngororero, Nyarugenge, and Kicukiro districts. Some of the dead were swept by flooding while their houses collapsed on them, according to a report by the Ministry in charge of Emergency Management.

The torrential rains also destroyed 118 houses and 88 hectares of crops.

The ministry has located some 522 disaster hotspots across the country, with roughly 22,000 households.

Rwanda's metrology agency had forecast that the country would experience heavy rains, which could trigger flooding and landslides, urging residents in risky areas to take precautionary measures. Enditem
