LUSAKA, April 15 (Xinhua) -- Zambia is finalizing preparations for the establishment of a military museum to showcase the evolution of the country's defense force, a senior official from the country's museum board said on Tuesday.

The National Museums Board is currently working with the Ministry of Defense to establish the museum.

George Mudenda, director general of the National Museums Board, said a committee has been set up to spearhead the project, which will be situated in Lusaka, the country's capital.

During a courtesy call on Ministry of Defense Permanent Secretary Mambo Hamaundu, Mudenda noted that the country has a lot of military history that is not documented and not appreciated by the public.

The museum will promote tourism as visitors will come from home and abroad, he said, adding that the museum will be a center for collections and a display of the evolution of the military through the decades.

Mudenda said the museum will also be a center for research, enhance education, and raise awareness about the role of the military in education.

For his part, Hamaundu pledged the defense ministry's support for the establishment of the museum, which has the potential to properly record the military's history with the accuracy and precision needed.

He said the overarching objective of the government is to make the economy rebound and the museum comes in handy to promote tourism. Enditem
