MEXICO CITY, April 15 (Xinhua) -- A first-half strike from Mexico international midfielder Erick Gutierrez gave Guadalajara a 1-0 home victory over Puebla in the Liga MX on Tuesday.
Gutierrez put his side ahead with an unstoppable 25-yard drive into the top-right corner after Miguel Gomez's cross.
The host defended diligently thereafter to end a five-game winless run in the league that dated back to March 2.
The result on the penultimate matchday leaves Guadalajara 10th in the 18-team standings with 20 points, 13 behind leader Toluca. Puebla is 17th with nine points so far.
The top six teams will automatically advance to the playoffs while those ranked seventh to 10th will contest a play-in round to determine the last two quarterfinal slots.
Elsewhere in the Liga MX on Tuesday, Pachuca was held to a goalless home draw by Tigres UANL. Enditem
