NEW DELHI, April 16 (Xinhua) -- Two Naxal commanders were killed in a fierce gunfight with police in the central Indian state of Chhattisgarh, the police said Wednesday.
The gunfight broke out Tuesday evening in a forest of Kilam-Bargum villages along the border of Kondagaon and Narayanpur districts, south of Raipur, the capital city of Chhattisgarh.
Both bodies have been recovered. The police said they recovered an assault rifle and some explosives from the spot.
According to a police official, the government forces suffered no damage in the clash.
Reports said 140 Naxalites have been killed in Chhattisgarh since the beginning of this year.
India's federal government has resolved to eradicate Naxalism before March 31, 2026.
Currently, Naxals are active across the central and eastern parts of India. Enditem
