NAKURU, Kenya, April 16 (Xinhua) -- Kenyan President William Ruto on Wednesday reaffirmed his administration's commitment to strengthening the country's military to effectively tackle security threats.

Speaking during a cadet commissioning parade at the Kenya Military Academy in Nakuru County, western Kenya, Ruto said his government is modernizing the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) and aligning their training to respond to a rapidly evolving security environment marked by unconventional threats, digital warfare, and transnational challenges.

"In response, we must modernize our forces, tailor our training, and innovate and update our doctrine," he said.

The newly commissioned officer cadets include personnel from Burkina Faso, Mozambique, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, Tanzania, and Uganda. The cohort also features the first graduates to earn a Bachelor's degree in Defence and Security Studies from the National Defense University-Kenya.

Ruto stressed the importance of collective responsibility in ensuring national security, noting that no amount of military strength alone can guarantee a country's safety.

He said the military is re-focusing training methods, adopting advanced technologies, and nurturing dynamic leaders capable of addressing today's complex security demands.

"Through these efforts, KDF remains a bulwark of peace and stability not only in Kenya, but also in the region and across Africa," he said. "This is a major milestone in our continued journey to align military training with modern academic rigor and strategic development goals."

Ruto emphasized that a stable and secure environment is crucial for attracting investment and building confidence both domestically and internationally.
