TUNIS, April 17 (Xinhua) -- Tunisia repatriated 164 Guinean nationals on Thursday as part of a voluntary return program coordinated with the International Organization for Migration (IOM), the Tunis Afrique Presse (TAP) reported.
The operation is part of Tunisia's broader strategy to manage migration flows, the TAP said.
A special flight was arranged for these individuals, who originally came to Tunisia intending to migrate to Europe, an IOM source said on condition of anonymity.
Since the beginning of the year, 1,544 migrants have been repatriated through the voluntary return programs, according to a statement released by the Tunisian presidency in late March.
In January, Mohamed Ben Ayed, secretary of state to the minister of foreign affairs, reported that Tunisia had facilitated the voluntary return of 7,250 undocumented migrants from sub-Saharan Africa in 2024. Enditem
