KABUL, April 18 (Xinhua) -- With the support of the private sector, a dairy center to process milk has been opened in southern Afghanistan's Kandahar province, spokesman for the provincial Directorate of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock Mohammad Hanif Haqmal said Friday.
Built at a cost of 8 million afghani (about 112,676 U.S. dollars) in the Arghandab district, the dairy center has a production capacity of 15,000 litres of milk round the clock, the official added.
In addition to providing job opportunities for local people and encouraging the locals to breed domestic animals, more than 300 villagers have already begun supplying milk to the center, the official added.
Without providing more details, the official said that the Afghan interim government would do its best to create job opportunities and stabilize the local economy to alleviate poverty in poverty-stricken Afghanistan. Enditem
