U.S. dollar ticks down

NEW YORK, April 21 (Xinhua) -- The U.S. dollar softened in late trading on Monday.

The dollar index, which measures the greenback against six major peers, lost 1.1 percent to 98.278 at 3:00 p.m. (1900 GMT).

In late New York trading, the euro increased to 1.1521 U.S. dollars from 1.1449 U.S. dollars in the previous session, and the British pound climbed to 1.3378 U.S. dollars from 1.3316 U.S. dollars in the previous session.

The U.S. dollar bought 140.60 Japanese yen, lower than 141.57 Japanese yen of the previous session. The U.S. dollar lost to 0.8073 Swiss francs from 0.8125 Swiss francs, and it rose to 1.3839 Canadian dollars from 1.3827 Canadian dollars. The U.S. dollar declined to 9.5337 Swedish kronor from 9.5599 Swedish kronor. Enditem
