Over 600,000 stimulant tablets seized in eastern Myanmar

YANGON, April 22 (Xinhua) -- The Myanmar police have seized over 600,000 stimulant tablets and other illegal drugs in eastern Shan state, the state-owned daily Myanma Alinn reported on Tuesday.

Acting on a tip-off, a joint anti-narcotic task force arrested four suspects in Tachileik town on April 19, the report said.

During the operation, authorities seized 602,000 stimulant tablets and three vehicles while the suspects were attempting to carry out a drug deal, it said.

Later on the same day, the police searched another suspect's house and confiscated 2.45 kg of brown opium, 6 kg of Ice (methamphetamine), 28,000 stimulant pills, 28.5 kg of opium, and 100 kg of ketamine, it added.

The total value of the drugs is estimated at more than 1.18 billion kyats (0.56 million U.S. dollars).

The suspects have been charged under Myanmar's drug laws, and further investigations are ongoing, the report said. Enditem
