ISLAMABAD, Aug. 29 (Xinhua) -- Two militants were killed in an intelligence-based operation in Pakistan's northwest Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, police said on Friday.
The Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) launched the operation near Neki Sahib Ziarat in Karak district after receiving intelligence about the presence of militants, the department said in a statement.
The militants opened fire on CTD personnel, triggering an exchange of fire in which two militants were killed, while their accomplices managed to escape, the statement said.
Two submachine guns, two hand grenades, six magazines and ammunition were recovered from the slain militants, it added.
The militants were allegedly planning to set up a roadblock and plant roadside explosive devices in the area. A search operation was underway to trace the fleeing militants. Enditem
