China on Monday pledged to work with South Korea to resolve the
Korean peninsular nuclear issue.
"China would like to make concerted efforts with South Korea to
address the Korean peninsular nuclear issue through dialogue and
consultation," Chinese State Councilor Tang Jiaxuan told Chung Dong-young, the former
head of the South Korea Uri Party.
Tang expressed his hopes that South Korea's leader will play a
pivotal role for safeguarding peace and stability of the northeast
Asia.
Chung said South Korea appreciates China's efforts in promoting
a peaceful settlement of the Korean peninsular nuclear issue.
Both men hailed China-South Korea ties for their frequent and
high-level visits, deep mutual trust and close trade
cooperation.
Wang Jiarui, head of the International Department of the CPC
Central Committee, held a banquet in honor of Chung on Monday
evening.
Chung was here on a three-day visit at the invitation of the
International Department of the CPC Central Committee.
