Well-known Chinese writer Yu Qiuyu confirmed Tuesday at a press
conference in Beijing that he will join the crew for the stage
drama Nine Scenes Dunhuang as a cultural consultant.
Web portal sina.com reports the writer, also an expert in
Chinese history and culture, expressed his excitement at being able
to contribute to the show.
Preparations are underway, with participation from famous
Chinese composer Su Yue and Greek director Dimitris Papaioannou,
who is known for his excellent work directing the opening and
closing ceremonies for the 2004 Athens Olympics.
Dunhuang Grotto, located in northwestern
China's Gansu Province, is famous for its vibrant interior
paintings. The drama aims to showcase the glory of Dunhuang
culture.
Jointly spearheaded by the State Council Information Office and
the Gansu provincial government, the drama will tour the world in a
bid to promote Chinese culture.
With a total investment of 50 million yuan (US$6.4 million), the
celebrated show is scheduled to premiere in Beijing in October.
