In a Chinese 4-0 triumph over the visiting New Zealand women's
football team on Wednesday, promising striker Ma Xiaoxu got a
severe injury that may cost her participation in the Beijing
Olympics next year.
Ma was tumbled by a rival defender outside the box in the
closing seconds of the first half. The injury made her unable to
stand up and she was later sent to hospital for further
examination.
China grabbed an advantage in ball possession after the game
began, but only broke the stalemate in the 31st minute with the
rival's scoring a home goal.
China's performance turned around in the second half after head
coach Elisabeth Loisel made several changes in the lineup.
Han Duan, Zhang Zheng and Bi Yan scored respectively to hammer
home China's final victory.
