Mainland Willing to Offer More Financial Services to Taiwan: Top Banker
Adjust font size:

The mainland is willing to offer more financial services to Taiwan to bolster cross-Strait economic cooperation, trade and tourism, central bank governor Zhou Xiaochuan said Monday.

The mainland's financial services in trade and tourism sectors are convenient, and more efforts will be made in this regard, said Zhou, governor of the People's Bank of China, the central bank.

However, some financial mechanism such as monetary clearing and settlement relies on certain conditions. Currency issuance authorities from both sides need to hold consultations, reach agreements, and strengthen supervision, Zhou told a press conference held on the sidelines of the annual session of the National People's Congress (NPC), China's legislature.

"If the Taiwan authorities keep pursuing 'Taiwan independence', things will not go on smoothly," Zhou said.
