China's national legislature, the National People's Congress (NPC) has examined and confirmed Tuesday the qualification of 2,987 newly-elected deputies.
The new deputies, representing 34 Chinese regions and the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA), will attend the upcoming First Session of the 11th National People's Congress (NPC).
The Standing Committee of the 10th National People's Congress (NPC) held its 32th meeting Tuesday, to finalize preparations for the new parliamentary session, which is set to open on March 5.
Wu Bangguo, chairman of the NPC Standing Committee, presided over the meeting.
Sheng Huaren, vice chairman of the NPC Standing Committee delivered a report that explains the election of the new legislators, the agenda of the session, and members of the presidium and those who will observe the session.
According to Sheng, all the new legislators were democratically recommended by the people and were carefully checked by relevant authorities, widely recognized by the public and able to represent people of all circles. The meeting also studied draft revisions to the Law on the Prevention of Water Pollution and the Law on the Protection of Handicapped People, respectively.
Attending the meeting were Wang Zhaoguo, Li Tieying, Ismail Amat, He Luli, Ding Shisun, Cheng Siwei, Xu Jialu, Jiang Zhenghua, Gu Xiulian, Raidi, Lu Yongxiang, Wuyunqimuge and Han Qide, all vice-chairmen of the NPC Standing Committee.
