China's top political advisory body on Sunday discussed and adopted in principle the draft namelist the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) has recommended for the organization's new leadership.
The list included nominees of the chairperson, vice chairpersons and secretary-general of the 11th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), as well as members of the top political advisory body's Standing Committee.
The discussion was held at the second meeting of the presidium of the First Session of the 11th CPPCC National Committee at the Great Hall of the People Sunday afternoon. The draft methods of the election were also adopted in principle.
Also deliberated at the meeting were a draft resolution on the work report of the Standing Committee of the CPPCC National Committee and a draft political resolution.
It was decided at the meeting that all the drafts would be submitted to CPPCC members for discussion and consultation.
Du Qinglin, head of the United Front Work Department of the CPC Central Committee, made an explanation of the candidates list.
Du said that to elect those who are supported by the people and can fully perform their duties into the new leadership is an important task of the CPPCC National Committee session.
Paying great attention to the personnel arrangement of the CPPCC, the CPC Central Committee called meetings of its Political Bureau Standing Committee and the Political Bureau to discuss the matter soon after the 17th CPC National Congress closed last October.
The CPPCC is a patriotic united front organization of the Chinese people, serving as a key mechanism for multi-party cooperation and political consultation under the leadership of the CPC, and a major manifestation of socialist democracy.
The CPPCC consists of representatives of the CPC and non-Communist parties, personages without party affiliation, and representatives of people's organizations, ethnic minorities and various social strata.
