More than 10,000 people from six countries and regions made up 200 teams. About 1,000 of them took part in the marathon relay, and nearly 10,000 others ran to show their enthusiasm for the Games, including many in wheelchairs.
BOCOG's executive vice president said the event gave locals a great chance to view the Bird's Nest and demonstrate Beijing citizens' enthusiasm for the Olympics.
BOCOG's executive vice president Liu Jingmin said, "With 100 days to go to the Olympics, this long-distance race demonstrates the enthusiasm of people in Beijing to prepare for and participate in the Olympic Games. It also shows our determination to host a successful Olympic and Paralympic Games."
At the same time, 2,000 people staged an art performance, including tai-chi and various traditional dances.
The end of the route was also the starting point. Competitors ran into the Birds' Nest after finishing the race.
