Directly across the street from the north gate of Beihai Park, Shichahai consists of three lakes: Qianhai, Xihai and Houhai. At night, Houhai area is famous for its bar street. The area is packed with restaurants, bars and cafes.

Avoid getting lunch from this area if you want to have traditional and inexpensive Beijing food. Walk north towards the end of the area and you will find some local food vendors where you can get zhajiang noodle (炸酱面) for around 10-15 yuan.
