Zhuhai has recently held a conference on how to further improve its information infrastructure. By 2015, the number of optical network subscribers in the city amounted to 314,017. In spite of this, Zhuhaihas been confronted with several problems such as the difficulty of subscribing to the optical network and the slow construction of optical infrastructure.

To tackle the problem, Zhuhai plans to universalize the optical network by the end of 2018. From 2016 to 2018, construction on optical network infrastructures, wireless telecommunication base stations and hotspots of wireless local area networks (WLAN) in public spaces will be carried out year by year. To be specific, 460 WLAN hotspots and 7,000 wireless access points will be built within this year; another 179 and 4,000 are going to be constructed in 2017. 2018 will see the construction of another 71 and 2000 respectively. In total, the number of new hotspots of WLAN and wireless access points will reach 801 and 13,428.
