China will send a special envoy to Tokyo to attend the International Conference on Reconstruction Assistance to Afghanistan scheduled for 21 and 22 January, Foreign Ministry spokesman Sun Yuxi announced at a regular press conference in Beijing Tuesday.

Sun said this shows that the Chinese government gives high priority to the post-war reconstruction of Afghanistan.

Wang Xuexian, in charge of the Afghan issues from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, will attend the Tokyo meeting which opens this month.

China supports all plans to help Afghanistan in its reconstruction work, and will make its utmost effort to participate in the work, said Sun.
