The Fifth Session of the Ninth National People's Congress (NPC)
received a record number of 1,194 bills and motions as of 6:00 p.m.
on March 10, the deadline for submitting bills and motions.
According to officials in charge of handling bills and motions from
deputies and delegations, the bills and motions cover a wide range
of areas, such as bills for enacting and revising laws and
regulations, and proposals on promoting the country's economic
growth and social progress.
The total number of bills and motions will be officially announced
by the presidium of the current NPC annual session on March 13.
The number of bills and motions this year is the largest ever since
the first session of Ninth NPC convened in 1998. In the 2001
session, 1,040 bills and motions were submitted.
