At least seven people riding on a jeep got killed and seven others were injured on a fishing trip in Guangshui City of central China's Hubei Province early Wednesday morning, local police reported Thursday.

The tragedy occurred in the early hours of the day when a jeep carrying 12 people to a reservoir for angling collided head-on with a farm-use vehicle in Guangshui city, killing five on the jeep and injuring the remaining nine at the spot.

Two of the most injured seriously died on their way to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment.

The two others on the farm-use vehicle were also wounded, but slightly.

The cause of the accident is under investigation.
