China recently published the country's first serial report on
environmental topics, written by Zhe Fu, a dedicated environmental
writer.
The three books are in-depth reports on the environmental
situation in the three major river basins of the Yangtze River,
Yellow River and Huaihe River. These areas all have encountered
serious environmental problems during the past decades due to fast
industrialization and urbanization.
Zhe Fu, whose real name is Sun Zhijian, is a native of Beijing
and now lives in Taiyuan, the capital of Shanxi Province in north
China. He wrote his first works at age 17.
Zhe decided to write about environmental issues in 1982, while
filming his first TV drama, which took place in northeast China,
the site of rampant forest destruction.
Since then, he has written seven long reports on the subject.
Some of his works have become very popular at home and abroad.
Currently, he is working with a group of environmental
journalists organized by the Environmental and Resources Protection
Committee of the National People's Congress, to study environmental
issues in the Taihu Lake area in east China.
