The Beijing Organizing Committee for the 2008 Olympic Games (BOCOG)
Saturday unveiled 10 more alternate theme songs for the 2008
Games.
Many star pop singers including Hong Kong's Karen Mok and Leon
Lai performed these songs at the closing ceremony of the 2008
Olympic Cultural Festival.
An evaluation committee, made up of musicians and experts,
picked out the 10 songs from 431 valid entries received.
BOCOG said it would continue to invite entries on an annual
basis till the end of 2007, and some 10 songs would be chosen each
year. Seven songs were selected last year.
The theme song for the 2008 Games will eventually emerge from
the yearly winners.
The annual 2008 Olympic Cultural Festival, which started on June
23, was held to mark the fourth anniversary of Beijing's successful
bid for the 2008 Games and help promote the Olympic movement in the
city.
Various events including concerts, photo exhibition, dance
performances and Olympic forum took place over the days in Beijing
and Qingdao, the sailing venue for the 2008 Games.
