Honorary Chairman of the Kuomintang (KMT) party in Taiwan Lien
Chan Saturday sent a message to General Secretary of the Communist
Party of China Central Committee Hu
Jintao, expressing his thanks to Hu's message of
congratulations and vows to keep working for the great rejuvenation
of the Chinese nation.
On Friday, Hu congratulated Lien Chan, former chairman of the
KMT, on his becoming KMT honorary chairman.
Lien said in the message that four months had passed since his
meeting with Hu in Beijing, which unfolded the prelude to the
new relations across the Taiwan Straits and between the two
parties.
"With your support and the joint efforts of the two parties, all
measures beneficial to the well-being of the people on both sides
of the Taiwan Straits have been pushed forward in this period to
the high-degree of acknowledgement of the public," said Lien.
"Peace, stability and development across the Taiwan Straits are
the common responsibilities of our two parties as well as the
common missions of us two for the Chinese nation and people on both
sides of the Straits," he said.
He said that the "common aspiration and prospects for
cross-Straits peace and development" he and Hu jointly issued
earlier this year had been written into the policy platform of the
KMT at the 17th National Congress of the party.
"What I personally care for is not only the rejuvenation of the
KMT, but also the realization of cross-Straits peace and a win-win
situation," Lien said.
He said leaders of both sides of the Straits should concentrate
on bringing benefits for the people and the great rejuvenation of
the Chinese nation.
"I would like to work with you to turn our aspiration and
prospects into reality," said Lien.
