China's top legislature on Sunday announced the termination of
Wang Youjie, 64, former vice chairman of the Standing Committee of
the Henan
Provincial People's Congress, as deputy to the National People's
Congress (NPC).
According to a circular issued by the 10th
NPC Standing Committee, Wang was suspected of taking bribes and
having severely breached the law and the discipline of the
Communist Party of China (CPC). The CPC Central Commission for
Discipline Inspection put him under investigation on March 30,
2005. Later Wang offered to resign from his posts of vice chairman
and NPC deputy for "having committed mistakes." The Standing
Committee of the Henan Provincial People's Congress has accepted
Wang's resignation.
The circular also said Dang Hongxin, 76, professor with Henan
University and an NPC deputy, died of illness on June 10, 2005. His
position of NPC deputy, automatically terminated.
To date, the 10th NPC has 2,986 deputies.
