Wreaths Laid to Mark Victory Anniversary

Chinese leaders laid floral baskets to the Monument to the People's Heroes in Tian'anmen Square in Beijing Saturday morning, as part of activities to mark the 60th anniversary of the Chinese people's victory in the war against Japanese aggression and the victory of the World Anti-fascist War.

Chinese leaders Hu Jintao, Wu Bangguo, Wen Jiabao, Jia Qinglin, Zeng Qinghong, Huang Ju, Wu Guanzheng, Li Changchun and Luo Gan and nearly 10,000 people from all walks of life gathered in the square attending the flower-laying ceremony.

 

At 9:00 AM, Secretary of the Beijing Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Liu Qi declared the start of the ceremony. After the firing of salute cannons, 18 soldiers lifted nine floral baskets and carried them to the monument.

 

These floral baskets were presented by various parties, including the CPC Central Committee, the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, the State Council, the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, the Central Military Commission, war veterans and people from all walks of life in Beijing.
