The Fifth Plenary Session of the 16th
Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) will be
held in Beijing from October 8 to 11.
The decision was made by the Political Bureau of the CPC Central
Committee at a meeting on Thursday.
Hu
Jintao, general secretary of the CPC Central Committee,
presided over the meeting.
During the meeting, participants also discussed suggestions on
the country's 11th Five-Year Plan (2006-2010) for national economic
and social development.
Some of the key points discussed and affirmed at the meeting
include the following:
China should maintain its stable and rapid pace of economic
growth in the 2006-2010 period, improve the quality and efficiency
of economic growth, speed up the strategic adjustment of economic
structure, and avoid major ups and downs for the economy.
Transforming methods of growth should also be accelerated over
the next five years, with a focus on developing a recycling economy
and constructing an energy-saving, environment-friendly
society.
The nation should improve its capacity of independent
innovation, which serves as a key foundation for its continued
economic structure adjustment and transformation of growth.
Over the next five years, China should pay more attention to
social equity and democracy, and to serving the people's
interests.
Development of economy and society, of cities and the
countryside, and of different regions should be more balanced and
harmonious in the 2006-2010 period.
The country's industrial sector shall give support to the
development of the agricultural sector, while the better developed
urban areas should do the same to the underdeveloped rural
areas.
In the five years to come, China will persist in its reform
toward the establishment of a socialist market economy and a more
vigorous and open social system.
