The Chinese government will fund three highway infrastructure
projects in the Sri Lanka capital of Colombo, an official from the
Chinese Embassy to Sri Lanka said on Saturday.
According to Zhao Zhanfang, commercial counsellor of the Chinese
embassy, these projects will help reduce the traffic congestion on
three highly congested areas in the capital.
An investigation team from China is currently working with
officials of Sri Lanka's Road Development Authority to design these
three projects.
The exchange of letters relating to the provision of grant
assistance for these three projects were signed here Friday by
Chinese Assistant Minister of Commerce Huang Hai and Sri Lankan
Treasury Secretary P. B. Jayasundera.
