Gold Medal Snatched at World Sailing Games

Young Chinese female sailor Chen Qiubin successfully took the women's windsurfer RS:X's title in the final day competition of the International Sailing Federation (ISAF) World Sailing Games 2006 in Austria on Saturday.

20 sailors from different countries qualified for the Medal Race. Ukraine sailor Olga Maslivets and Spanish sailor Blanca Manchon respectively took silver and bronze. Another Chinese sailor Liu Weiming took the seventh place.

After the several days' tough competition, she felt that she was in shape and confident of winning the gold medal, she told Xinhua.

China sent 10 sailors to the world sailing games, and attended 4 of 10 disciplines, namely 470 women's Two Person Dinghy, RS:X women's windsurfer, RS:X men's windsurfer and Laser Radial women's one person Dinghy.

"Olympic Games 2008 in Beijing provide a rare opportunity to the development and popularization of the sailing sport in China. We are confident of breaking through in the Olympic Games 2008", Chinese team's head coach Jiang Chen showed confidence to Xinhua.

ISAF World Sailing Games 2006 was over at Lake Neusiedl, a small city located at the east of Austria, on Saturday. Over 800 sailors from around the world took part in the competition.
