After one week of operation, a new animal shelter for non-canine
strays is housing doves, rabbits, peacocks and other species of
stray animals. The shelter, located in Haidian District, is the
first of its kind in Beijing.
Covering an area of about 7,000 square meters west of the
district's Xibeiwang Town, the shelter has sections for workers to
bring in, feed, isolate and observe non-canine strays.
So far, nearly 70 animals collected by the Beijing Animal Health
Inspection Bureau have temporary homes in the shelter.
