City volunteers for the Beijing Olympic Games see more women applicants
after the recruitment went on for a month, said the Games
organizers' official website on Tuesday.
Women account for 61 percent of the 110,657 applicants, aging
from 13 to 79, said the website. The oldest applicant, geologician
Du Danian, asked to become an English translator during the August
8-24 Games in the Chinese capital.
More than half of the people would like to work for information
service while over 34,000 people put in for emergency service.
The Beijing Olympics organizers said a total of 400,000 city
volunteers will be needed and people as young as 14 can apply for
the voluntary job on the condition that they get the permission of
their guardians.
City volunteers will work at least three shifts with four hours
each. The organizers will set up 500 voluntary service posts around
Olympic venues and in other major areas in Beijing, providing
information, language and emergency services.
The recruitment will not close until June next year and Beijing
residents can go to respective government website of the districts
or counties they live in for application forms or dial 86-10-12355
to apply.
