Seen by over 70 million people worldwide, "Cats" first opened in London in May 1981. The musical, composed by Andrew Lloyd Webber and adapted from T.S. Elliot's "Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats," holds the record for one of the longest-running musicals in West End history, playing for 21 years. In addition, the musical has been presented in over 26 countries, about 300 cities, and in 14 languages.

The Chinese production, the 15th language version of "Cats," is a collaboration between United Asia Live Entertainment, which produced the Chinese version of musical "Mamma Mia!" in 2011, and Really Useful Group (RUG). RUG brought in the musical's original creative team from England as to produce the Chinese production at a world-class standard. With over 30 years of work experience, Jo- Anne Robinson, who participated in the original show as assistant choreographer and joined the production of 13 versions of "Cats" around the world, is the director and choreographer of the current Chinese production. Musical supervisor Fiz Shapur has over 20 years of experience in the musical industry and has been involved in the creation of "Cats" around the world, from Europe to South Africa.
