In collaboration with domestic investors and a top Hollywood production team, the film will present a different rock dog adventure than the original story of the cartoon by adding a host of fresh elements to both the characters and storyline, Zheng Jun revealed at the launch ceremony for the film project on Monday.
The cartoon book "Tibetan Rock Dog," which hit book stores earlier this year, centers on a Tibetan mastiff, Metal, who leads a magical and adventurous life in Beijing after being adopted by a Beijing-based rock musician during his pilgrimage to Tibet.
Zheng said the idea for a film version of his book was inspired by Hollywood animations such as "Kungfu Panda," "Ice Age" and "Toy Story," and he was convinced the character of Metal the rock dog would be popular.
Slated for release in 2011, the film will first roll out in theaters across north America. A full list of Chinese entertainers will lend their voices to the cast for its Chinese version.
